Dolba (ドルバ, Doruba) is a monster that appeared in Ultraman Cosmos.

  • Subtitle: Ancient Monster (古代怪獣, Kodai Kaijū)

History[]

Ultraman Cosmos[]

Dolba was a monster of the same species as Galbas that lived underground in Minamigaoka. Having anticipated an ambush from Team EYES, Chaos Header had infected Dolba with his chaos energy, mutating the monster into Chaos Dolba (カオスドルバ, Kaosu Doruba). With the monster being used as a decoy, Chaos Dolba kept Team EYES at bay, while Chaos Ultraman Calamity appeared on the scene to destroy the one weapon that could threaten the life-form: the newly-built Chimera Missile.

After a brief skirmish with the evil ultra, Musashi transformed into Ultraman Cosmos and purified Chaos Dolba with his Cosmium Beam, expelling Chaos Header from his body and turning the monster back to normal before a fight could even begin. Shortly after being freed, Dolba noticed that Cosmos was in trouble against Chaos Ultraman Calamity, and the monster attempted to assist Cosmos by ramming into the evil ultra. However, this was of little help, as Chaos Ultraman Calamity took the monster out-of-commission with a few energy blasts in retaliation. Despite being attacked though, Dolba was still alive, and shortly after Chaos Ultraman Calamity was destroyed, Musashi stated that he would have Dolba transported to the Kaburaya Islands.[Cry of the Earth]

Abilities[]

  • Burrowing: Being from the underground, Dolba can burrow at high speeds.
  • Fireballs: Dolba can spit fireballs from his mouth.
  • Flight: Despite his unusually small wings, Dolba is capable of flight.

Appearances[]

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

  • Both Dolba and Chaos Dolba are portrayed by suit actor, Kazunori Yokoo.

Notes[]

  • Dolba's costume was modified from the Galbas suit.
  • Dolba's ability to fly was initially not in his episode's script. It was incorporated into his design at the suggestion of special effects director, Kenji Suzuki. Suzuki wanted to make the implication that Dolba's wings were degenerated, and he forced himself to use them after expressing a strong will to save Cosmos. Suzuki had also considered extending the length of Dolba's wings by using CGI, but this idea was scrapped.
