Jugglus Juggler (ジャグラスジャグラー, Jagurasu Jagurā) is the main antagonist in Ultraman Orb. He and Gai were elite warriors from their planet before becoming archenemies. After being rejected by the light, Juggler gradually embraced the power of darkness.
Juggler returns in Ultraman Z as the captain of STORAGE, Shota Hebikura (蛇倉 正太, Hebikura Shōta).
Subtitle: Phantom Demon (無幻魔人, Mugen Majin)
Personality[]
Juggler usually presents himself with a proud and confident behavior to the point of being unpleasant. He was originally much nicer and while dismayed by the fact that the light of Orb chose Gai over him, Juggler reassured the latter that he was indeed worthy and would support him to the best of his ability. After a tragedy that awoke his dark powers, whatever resentment that was born from said rejection consumed him and turned him into a bitter, selfish, and calculating man who delved into the darkness. His time in the darkness, after the conflict against Psyqueen, also resulted in him developing mental instability in the form of odd behaviors, including reminding others of their mortality, and occasional bouts of insanity.
Despite how far he had delved into the darkness, the good within Juggler revealed to persist, a fact that he realized through saving Natasha from impending doom in Rusalka long ago, and later, did a same thing for Naomi from a crashed Z-VTOL. He soon fell into depression, unable to fathom the fact that he shared Gai's desire to help others which he perceived as a weakness. Nevertheless, he found a new resolve thanks to Naomi's persuasion, which led to his and Gai's eventual teamwork against Magatano-Orochi. Although still motivated by self-interest, his change of heart after said fight is evident through his actions in sealing away his Dark Ring, and aiding Gai in his fights against threats, but has made it clear that only he is allowed to defeat his rival nonetheless.
As Shota Hebikura, he presents himself as a level-headed and stoic man at times and always unfazed by monster attacks on a regular basis. Kind, bright, and friendly, he acts as an older brother figure that the team can rely on in addition of being a very athletic mentor who puts Haruki through intensive drills in the training room, showcasing his capacity as a leader who can bring the troublesome young team. Outside of this facade, Juggler retains his usually hedonistic and psychotic traits albeit less pronounced that before and more inclined to do the right thing than he used to be. Although his true goal was to prove to those that believed their justice as absolute wrong, Juggler does show genuine concern for his fellow STORAGE teammates as shown when he orders its members to evacuate the area where Gillvalis was making its entry in the middle of a battle simulation and later, when assisting them in stopping Celebro's destructive plans before parting ways.

Ultraman Z[]
Juggler traveled to an alternate universe in which he joined the ranks of STORAGE under the identity of Shota Hebikura (蛇倉正太, Hebikura Shōta) and eventually rose to the rank of captain. Around this time, the Land of Light was waging war against a new threat in form of Celebro who stole Z Risers and Ultra Medals via. Genegarg in a bid to take the advantage of the chaos resulted by the Devil Splinter, the same conflict that eventually made its way to the same Earth Juggler currently at. Following Ultraman Z's arrival and Genegarg's defeat, Hebikura had salvaged Ultra Medals of Tiga, Dyna and Gaia. [Chant My Name!]
While maintaining his role as the group's captain, Juggler somehow deduced that Ultraman Z has chosen one of his men, Haruki Natsukawa, as his human host and partner after studying the Ultra's latest combat data and subsequently, the alternative for Dark Ring that had since failed him. He then "borrowed" Haruki's Z Riser, duplicate the device through a ritual in conjunction of Serpent-Hearted Ring, and returned the original Riser to the young man while secretly keeping the newly created copy right in the middle of Peguila's attack. After Haruki, as Ultraman Z, defeated the kaiju with Z Lance Arrow, Juggler decided to put his Dark Z Riser into a test by turning into Zeppandon for the first time in years and challenge the Ultra in combat. Although he wind up defeated by Ultraman Z in process, Juggler nevertheless satisfied by the results since the Riser worked as intended and celebrated it by letting out his usual maniacal laugher, but not before disciplined Haruki for his reckless use of Sevenger while he's gone.
After the disbandment of STORAGE, Juggler goes back to acting on his own accord. [Prelude to a Nightmare]

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
Juggler is portrayed by Takaya Aoyagi, who happened to be friends with Gai Kurenai's actor Hideo Ishiguro. The two are joined the auction for the role of Gai Kurenai, but despite losing to Ishiguro, he nevertheless delighted upon being appointed for Juggler's role, as Juggler is also one of the series' main cast members. He wishes to enjoy his time acting throughout the series, wanting his friends' children to watch his acting.
Notes[]
- Juggler can't stand the melody Gai plays on the Orbnica, and receives long lasting migraines if he hears it playing.
- According to Masayuki Goto, Juggler's Majin form supposedly resemble that of a traditional ninja. He also originally intended him to have a full 'moon' motif and nature over the 'sun' motif and nature of the Ultramen. Eventually, he combined the aspects of a 'Moon of Venice' motif with that of a western armor motif, leaving Juggler's Majin form's resemblance to ninja less obvious.
- Interestingly, rather than from the series' script, many of Juggler's sadistic traits (notably his mannerisms and his preening gestures) are achieved through an ad-lib by his own actor. Takaya also mentioned that children would be fearful of him because of this. Also, due to Takaya cannot whistle, the scene in episode 16 of Juggler whistling was dubbed over.
