Maga-Orochi[]

Hailed from the monster galaxy, Maga-Orochi was regarded as the "Great Lord Monster" who had terrorized the galaxy by devouring many planets with its insatiable hunger for many years. As it entered Earth to consume the planet like many others before it, its dark powers resonated with the planet, creating 6 elemental Lord Monsters in the process:

The monster also kidnapped a princess named "Tamayura-hime" around that time, but was soon confronted by "a warrior of light." The warrior was not alone in said fight, as he came with six more companions, who dealt the rest of the Lord Monsters while he himself contended to their progenitor. Eventually, the warrior of light sealed Maga-Orochi inside a barrier and buried it deep within a sacred forest to be watched over by Princess Tamayura forever. His comrades opted to do the same with the rest of the Lord Monsters due to the risk of further damaging the planet at that time.

In the present day however, the site of Maga-Orochi's concealment was breached when the demon, Jugglus Juggler, who used Monster Cards of Maga-Orochi's elemental progenies after Kurenai Gai (Ultraman Orb) defeated them one by one. Maga-Orochi was nearly reborn, but one obstacle stood in its way: The warrior's barrier. Using the power of an Ultraman Belial card he procured from the Planetary Invasion Syndicate, Juggler destroyed the barrier and Maga-Orochi was revived. Free once more, the monster rampaged on Tokyo, destroying everything in its path. Knowing he had to fight back, Gai transformed into Ultraman Orb to face Maga-Orochi head on. However unlike the beasts the ultra had faced before, Maga-Orochi's superior strength, compared to its elemental progenies, allowed the monster to withstand all of Orb's strongest attacks, including Spacium Zeperion's Sparion Beam, the Orb Lancer Shoot, and Hurricane Slash's Trident Slash, all without receiving any damage whatsoever! Finally, Orb desperately switched to Burnmite form and attacked Maga-Orochi with the Stobium Dynamite, but the attack only coated the beast in burnt stone, and after freeing itself, Maga-Orochi blasted Orb with his Maga-Thunder attack, which took out Orb after a few strikes. With Orb down and out, Maga-Orochi resumed its rampage once more, destroying everything in its path until it eventually fell asleep. [Trouble! Mama's Here!]

After a short nap, Maga-Orochi awoke from its slumber and the beast resumed its rampage. As it rampaged once more, Gai was confronted by Tamayura. The princess presented him with two Ultraman cards, Zoffy (the warrior who sealed him away long ago) and Ultraman Belial, believing that both their balanced light and darkness would suffice in stopping the beast. Suddenly as Gai was trying to activate and combine their powers, both he and the princess were confronted by Maga-Orochi, who attempted to kill them. Tamayura created a psychic force-field between them and the monster, but the shield does not last long against Maga-Orochi's power and the beast shatters her barrier and dispelled her with its Maga-Thunder attack. Horrified and enraged at her sacrifice, Gai forced the cards to activate once more and this time, his rage allowed them to activate. Gai then transformed into a new form: Ultraman Orb Thunder Breaster. Now berserk and filled with a new unmatched power, Orb battled with Maga-Orochi and this time, Orb's immense strength allowed the ultra to not only withstand Maga-Orochi's attacks without receiving any damage whatsoever, but also caused him to viciously assault the monster with uprooted buildings and even slicing off the beast's tail. Finally after beating Maga-Orochi to a pulp, Orb Thunder Breaster struck the beast with his Zedcium Beam, which obliterated the beast.

Maga-Orochi was gone and Orb was victorious. But the terror was far from over... [The Dark King’s Blessing]

Magatano-Orochi[]

Sometime later once Jugglus Juggler was apprehended by VTL, the demon revealed that Maga-Orochi was merely a juvenile form of a beast far more dangerous and deadly than it known as "Magatano-Orochi" (マガタノオロチ, Magata No Orochi). It was revealed that during its slumber, the seemingly dormant Maga-Orochi was transferring its own essence into the earth, sapping the planet of its energy to ensure its rebirth into its true form in the event of its body's destruction. During its incubation, strange occurrences all around Japan took place, such as an intense heat wave hitting the country, UFOs from aliens who lived in secrecy have all fleeing without attempting to conceal themselves, aquatic life fleeing from its natural habitats all without any explanation, and monsters who dwelled beneath the Earth retreating to the surface, only to die from an over-exposure to a poisonous smoke that was emitting from the beast's pending arrival. Looking out for his own safety and wanting to speed up the beast's revival, Juggler tricked the team by suggesting them to strike it while it was still vulnerable with their strongest weapon. Despite some hesitation and distrust in him, VTL agreed to attack it.

During Juggler's revelation, a dark hole emerged above Tokyo Tower that drew energy towards it, the impending sign of Magatano-Orochi's coming arrival. By the time the team could stop themselves from being duped, VTL launched an ICBM known as the "Spiner R-1" to destroy the beast with one hit. The missile struck the beast, but rather than destroy it, Magatano-Orochi was finally freed from his chrysalis and immediately went on a rampage, laying waste to everything in its path and consuming everything that was left over. Gai transformed into Ultraman Orb Thunder Breaster to stop the Ultimate Lord Monster, but to the ultra's horror, not only did Magatano-Orochi retain its previous form's powers (albeit tenfold), but also gained the very abilities of all the Elemental Lord Monsters it spawned from. Even after switching to his Orb Origin form, Magatano-Orochi swallowed an Orb Supreme Calibur attack and bombarded the ultra with attack-after-attack until finally, the beast struck Orb with Maga-Grand King's Maga-Pierce attack, impaling Orb and forcing the ultra to revert back to Gai. With Orb out of the way once more, Magatano-Orochi resumed its rampage once more, with its only opposition being a futile attempt from VTL. [The Giga Lord Monster Strikes Back]

Magatano-Orochi was able to withstand and dispose of any and all of VTL's responses against it, but once Gai recovered (and "made peace" with Juggler after he saved Naomi from being killed), Gai went off to confront the Ultimate Lord Monster one last time. However despite a slight leg-up over, like before, Magatano-Orochi shrugged off Orb's efforts to stop it and it began sapping the ultra of his energy upon biting him. Suddenly during the beast's attack, Magatano-Orochi was suddenly ambushed by none other that Jugglus Juggler in his giant form. Having put aside his differences with Orb for now, both ultra and demon worked together in fighting back against the Ultimate Lord Monster. Despite their teamwork though, Magatano-Orochi continued to resist their assaults. With the help of Shibukawa rallying to VTL of the beast's weakness, the team targeted Magatano-Orochi's jaw, exposing to Orb and Juggler the beast weak spot. (Shin and Jetta learned that during Magatano-Orochi's incubation, a portion of its life-force was never re-absorbed once it was freed thanks to a sacred tree that blocked the same portion, creating a weak point just under its jaw.)

Taking the defensive, Magatano-Orochi seized Juggler and attempted to use him as a meat shield, but Juggler, knowing that taking down the beast was for the greater good, ordered Orb to fire on them while he has the opportunity. Obliging, Orb summoned every Ultraman card in his possession and using their combined powers, he charged up an extremely powerful version of the Orb Supreme Calibur, striking Magatano-Orochi, killing the Ultimate Lord Monster in a magnificent explosion. When the dust settled, the beast was finally gone, but so was Juggler... [The Wandering Sun]

Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy[]

Maga-Orochi reappeared in the mini-series, Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy.

Using his time-bending abilities, Absolute Tartarus found and confiscated an egg of Maga-Orochi from another timeline and brought it with him to the present timeline as part of his plan to build a second Kingdom. Placing the egg on Planet Mikarito, the Great Lord Monster began feeding on the planet's energy, causing it to rapidly age at a dangerous rate. It wasn't long until Ultraman Max and Ultraman Ribut found Maga-Orochi's egg, but before the ultras could dispose of it, they were ambushed by Hellberos and Alien Sran, with the pair seizing Max and infecting him with Gudis Cells to power-up Maga-Orochi's incubation, forcing Ribut to retreat.

After undergoing some training with fellow ultras: Great and Powered, Ribut and the others returned to Planet Mikarito to save their comrade. Ribut managed to fight off and cure a semi-corrupted Max, but they were too late to stop Maga-Orochi's egg from hatching thanks to it feeding off of the siphoned Gudis Cells and Max's own light. The Great Lord Monster was released once more, but before it could attack the ultras, Ultraman Xenon arrived on the scene with the Max Galaxy (which healed up the drained Max). With Xenon assisting Max and Ribut, Maga-Orochi was no match for the might of the three ultras and after being weakened by Xenon's Xenonium Cannon, the Great Lord Monster was destroyed by a combination of Max's Galaxy Cannon and a ray fired from Ribut's Spreader Rod.

Maga-Soul

Maga-Soul

Maga-Orochi's dormant form where he encased himself within a spherical, fleshy egg-like cocoon while resting on a planet. It was while in this state the Lord Monster held Princess Tamayura hostage and subsequently subdued by Zoffy until Juggler unsealed him, allowing him to unveil his original form once again.

  • Energy Consumption: Maga-Orochi can drain the planet he currently inhabited of its energy while in this state, gradually killing it.
  • Lord Monster Creation: By tapping on elemental forces of the planet which energy he absorbed, Maga-Orochi can spawn up to six lesser Lord Monsters each bearing the element in question and somehow taking forms of kaijus Ultramen familiar with.
  • Space Adaptation and Travel: In addition of surviving in the vacuum of space, Maga-Orochi can transverse between planets and galaxies through unspecified method, presumably through his Maga-Soul State.

Maga-Orochi's base form.

  • Maga-Thunder (マガ迅雷, Maga Jinrai): Maga-Orochi's primary ability. It can fire a powerful blue energy beam surrounded in black and red lightning from his mouth.
  • Electrocution: Maga-Orochi can electrocute its opponent with electrical energy through physical contact (ex. tail grab).
  • Spiky Carapace: Maga-Orochi's durable outer skin can withstand a direct hit from Ultraman Orb's Sperion Ray without showing any signs of damage. It also possesses several spikes protruding from them which can be used to damage its opponent.
  • Metamorphosis via. Life Force Transferring: Being a juvenile form, Maga-Orochi can molt into its true, Magatano-Orochi form, by transferring its essence to a safer location in order to incubate and hatch, leaving its larval form behind that remained active and continued its rampage until unknown period of time (the larval form soon destroyed by Orb after that point).
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: In addition of being durable, Maga-Orochi can quickly heal from injuries as shown through shedding away its outer skin that burned by Orb's Stobium Dynamite and replacing it with the new one underneath.
  • Strength: Maga-Orochi possess considerable brute force, capable of lifting its foes up without any trouble and also stop their attacks.
  • Burrowing: Maga-Orochi can burrow deep into the ground. This is how he entered a planet's crust in which he assumed his Maga-Soul State to drain it of its energy.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Maga-Orochi can regenerate from injuries he sustained from attacks as shown when he shed away burns all over his body resulted from Orb's Stobium Dynamite. Such ability proved strong enough to allow him to fully regrow missing limbs, though he only managed to regrow his severed tail by the time he achieved his Magatano-Orochi form.

Maga-Orochi's true and strongest form.

  • Maga-Thunder (マガ迅雷, Maga Jinrai): Maga-Orochi's Maga-Thunder attack is carried over to Magatano-Orochi. This time though, it is fired from its eyes, and they are colored purple and red.
    • Magata No Thunder (マガタノ迅雷, Magatano Jinrai): Stronger version of Maga-Thunder that fired from its mouth.
  • Consumption: Magatano-Orochi's Primary Ability. Magatano-Orochi consumes all forms of matter. It can also consume energy attacks as well, as seen when it consumes Ultraman Orb Origin's "Orb Supreme Calibur" attack.
Lord Monster Powers
  • Tentacles: Taken from Maga-tanothor. Magatano-Orochi's body is covered in purple tentacles, which it uses to ensnare, grip, and bash opponents.
  • Maga-Storm (マガ嵐, Maga Arashi): Taken from Maga-Basser. Magatano-Orochi can summon Tornadoes by sheer willpower. It uses it to consume matter.
  • Maga-Penetration (マガ穿孔, Maga Senkō): Taken from Maga-Grand King. Magatano-Orochi can fire a red energy beam from its head horn. It is far more powerful than Maga-Grand King's variation.
  • Maga-Odor (マガ臭気, Maga Shūki): Taken from Maga-Jappa. Magatano-Orochi can spew an intensely terrible odor from its mouth like a gas. It is far more powerful than Maga-Jappa's variation.
  • Maga-Fireballs (マガ火球, Maga Kakyū): Taken from Maga-Pandon and Maga-Zetton. Magatano-Orochi can launch fireballs from its mouth and from all over its body in any direction it chooses. It is far more powerful than Maga-Pandon's and Maga-Zetton's variations.
Weaknesses
A portion beneath Magatano-Orochi's lower jaw is vulnerable, having not formed over due to his remaining energy being withheld by a sacred tree in the Forbidden Forest. Attacking the spot directly with a strong enough attack can destroy Magatano-Orochi in one hit.

Behind the scenes[]

Portrayal[]

Both Maga-Orochi and Magatano-Orochi are portrayed by suit actor Yoshiki Kuwahara.

Notes[]

  • Maga-Orochi's design was done by Goto Masayuki. Its motif was based on that of crustaceans such as shrimps and crabs, while the inside of the armored shells on its arms and legs were intended to resemble internal organs, (this was not reflected in the molding). Though despite being called the "Great Lord Monster", with the exception of the "Maga crystals" it has in its chest, there is no sense of unity with the other King Demon Beasts that make up its construct. Some design plans also called for the monster to be quadrupedal.
  • Magatano-Orochi's design was also done by Goto Masayuki. In contrast to the first form's design, Fuyuki Shinada's idea was to eliminate the monster's arms and focus more on eating and biting, with the suit actors using their arms to move their mouths.
    • Additionally because the monster's title, name, and gimmick are all based on that of the eight-headed serpent of folklore of a similar name, a design with Magatano-Orochi sporting eight heads was considered, but since that is a common design choice to associate with Yamata no Orochi, and the limitations to how expressive the suit could be, a design with the monster sporting eight faces was decided upon instead. Although moments before Magatano-Orochi's destruction in the last episode of Orb, the monster does briefly take on an eight-headed form before perishing, possibly as a nod to one of those original designs.
